5 out of 5 stars Still love it   November 18, 2008

Love this series, got them all for the ps2 apart from aerosmith one which I will buy at some time if I see it cheap. br / br /They could release one of these every year for the rest of my life and I still don't think I will ever get bored of them, they are games that I always go back too at some time of the year. Personally, I have absolutely no interest in buying new tracks though for these games, there is more than enough on them to keep me happy thanks without spending more. br / br /As with previous ones, I have been playing this a lot. I have this strange obsession though, I always have to complete in on easy mode even though it's too easy for me, I think I just do it to get the most out of the game. Anyway, if you are really rubbish and found easy too hard, there is now a new beginner level, but I decided not to bother with that one. Easy is set at default in case you are wondering, has it alway been set at easy or was it medium?, can't remember. br / br /The track list is bigger than ever and you can now create your own characters, make your guitar look completely unique etc. so there is now always something to spend your money on in the game which is great if like me you have an obsession with trying to get five star ratings on all songs. br / br /In previous guitar heros, you started off with about five or six songs but you could still pick the order which you played them, which I liked because if you was ever struggling on a song and wanted a rest from it you could always try another. This has now changed a bit which is a little annoying. It is the same as before, a group of songs, but now they are gigs in various locations and the problem is you can't choose which songs you want to play from each group, you have to play them in the order 1 to 3 or 1 to 5 etc. depending on how many songs there are in the gig, the early ones have less songs, but even more annoying is the fact that you have to play all of the gig, you can't save the game inbetween each song like before, this is silly in my opinion because you have to give yourself enough time to play the whole gig or lose your progress and start the gig from the beginning plus the game still has to load (and long loads they are too, I am sure they are longer than previous guitar heros) inbetween each song, . The good news though is that once you complete the gig on whatever difficulty level you have completed, you can go back and play them in any order like previous editions, this was a relief if like me you like to improve your own score. br / br /You can now play the game the same, but play the bass instead which gives this one even more value for money because it gives a fresh feel to all the songs. You can use your old wired or wireless guitar to do this. Obviously you can't do vocals or drums unless you have the full band package. But I am more than happy enough with just guitar and bass thanks. You can also make your own tracks which takes about 200 blocks on your ps2 memory card I think, I haven't really tried much of this but it's still a great new addition. br / br /The new tracklist is all original recordings, no various covers like before which is great. There really is something for everybody on these tracklists, from blues and country to 80's hair metal, pop and classic rock to grunge and alternative rock etc etc. you really can't complain. If like me you like all genres of rock old and new, then it's great but maybe not so great for people who don't like anything less than heavy metal. I am still waiting for them to include a track by Testament, Opeth, Camel, there are loads to be honest, I could go on and on, maybe next year and the year after etc. br / br /From a personal point of view, I am a bit disappointed that I didn't buy the new guitar package, because the new slider bar looks very interesting, it's just that I love using the whammy bar on long notes, so I think I would love the slider bar too (can anybody tell me if this is any good?), it looks lovely though too. Anyway, if you're a big fan of the previous games then this is definitely essential with or without the new guitar.

I, and many others, have been disappointed. Guitar Hero World Tour simply will not run on some PS2s. I have tried 3 different copies, from 2 different stores and the disc won't run. I have had the console tested and it is fine, it will run any other game including other Guitar Heroes. The guitar was lovely, very pretty, pity I can't play anything with it!
