Elvis Rocks. September 30, 2007 M. J. clarke Amazing film.Elvis may look pale but he is on top form here as are the TCB band. They all really let go and the result is pure 70s Rock.Check out Polk Salad Annie,Proud Mary, the Karate sequence,Ron Tutts awesome drumming,Jerry Sheffs thunderous bass lines and Elvis' incredible vocal power. He's more powerful vocally here than in Aloha and much more relaxed.Other standout performances include Bridge Over Troubled Water,Mountain, the Stamps singing Sweet Sweet Spirit and of course American Trilogy.
elvis on tour January 3, 2004 12 out of 13 found this review helpful
i think that elvis on tour is the best concert of all time, it even beats aloha from hawaii, it shows elvis at his best and at his worst durin his 1972 tour. the songs Burning Love and Bridge over troubled water were done brilliantly by the king, The best song in the video in my opinion is you gave me a mountain, so overall this video is brilliant and i suggest anyone to see it!
Elvis on Tour......I wish he hadn't bothered February 8, 2003 12 out of 26 found this review helpful
I am struggling to believe that someone declared this tour film to be the equal of Thats The Way It is. I can only assume he was referring to the original, and not the supreme Special Edition, which is the finest Elvis concert film you can buy. Elvis on Tour is dreadful. He looks awful, his face is bloated and 'eerily pale' as Mr. Guralnick decribes him. Also, he's dressed like a Liberace impersonator. The music is run-of-the-mill, with Bridge Over Troubled Water the only stand-out. Rest of the time he's not even trying. The clips of Elvis in the 50's only serve to remind us of what he had lost by the early 70's - namely his outrageous vitality and freshness. Perhaps the chap who created the TTWII Special Edition could do the same with this film - dig out all the original footage, of which there was an abundance, and create a new concert film focussing mainly on Elvis on stage, instead of Elvis-backstage, Elvis-in-car, Elvis-doing-press-interviews. Let's see and hear him singing on stage. What about the Madison Square Gardens shows? Don't they have footage of that? If you're looking for something in the vein of TTWII Special Edition, don't buy this. You'll only be disapointed.
Elvis Aaron Presley.................The King of Rock n Roll February 7, 2002 8 out of 10 found this review helpful
Elvis was the master of live performances, this is an excellent concert documentary. A golden globe winner, and rightfully so.....its just as good as Thats The Way It Is and deserves a collectors DVD edition.
Outstanding performances scattered with backstage footage April 10, 2001 10 out of 12 found this review helpful
It's fascinating to see the backstage footage linked together with the hysteria of Elvis's performances - this is real 70's film making capturing the reason why the man is called The King
