Fun Catchy - No-Strings Pop January 2, 2009 Dutch and Red (England) As many have mentioned, British girl bands have generally struggled to appeal to the British buying public, yet The Saturdays might just buck this trend with this almost perfect power pop offering. If This Is Love and Up were both play listed by Radio 1 and set a strong standard that continues throughout the album. Keep Her has a great upbeat chorus that will get anyone singing along, which is quickly followed by third single Issues which shows the girls' more sensitive side. Other highlights are the title track, Chasing Lights, and Vulnerable. The record capitalises on strong standout choruses and sweet harmonies, as the girls voices blend smoothly together and show they can really sing as they recently demonstrated in the Live Lounge. br / br /Yet this is not a perfect record. Why Me Why Now sticks out like a sore thumb. It sounds tacked onto the end and doesn't quite fit with the other tracks. What is also very frustrating is that neither version of Up on this CD are the single version, which is far superior. Since I bought this album largely on the strength of this very good song, to hear the stripped down album version was very disappointing, leaving me feeling slightly cheated, as I will now have to buy the single. br / br /Despite these little complaints this is a remarkably strong debut, and far more fun than both the Sugababes and Girls Aloud's latest offerings. Whilst they have strayed from the power pop that made them famous, The Saturdays embrace it making this the most catchy and interesting pop album of the last year.
Pleasantly suprised!!! December 7, 2008 Asbotec (UK) i never thought of buying this album, until i heard the the song up whilst doing a shop, i found myself wanting the bop to it. br /so read the reviews and heard the samples of the album and now downloaded the whole album and i must say it is a overall superb album br /money well spent, has upbeat and some catchy ballads without the cheese br /thanks!
fantastic November 29, 2008 Ms. L. Hill (sunderland) Im not usually Into Girl Groups But I first saw these When I went to see The Jonas brothers and i have to say they blue the house down everyone Loved there Performances I think Up is an amazing SOngs Its one Of those Pop Songs You sing over and Over, If You Liked there First two Singles Defintly check the album out you wont be disappointed.
Give The Girls A Chance! November 26, 2008 Hayley Nichols (West Sussex, UK) I bought this album at the same time as I got the Sugababes and Pussycat Dolls new albums. I have to say hands down Chasing Lights is the best of the three and that says a lot as I'm a huge Sugababes fan. Although The Saturdays are relatively unknown you will probably have heard of their great 2nd single 'Up'. I have to say I'm not such a fan of 'If This Is Love' as it doesn't really do the girls justice. br / br /I was a bit scared of buying this as I worried it was too 'bubblegum pop' but I was proved wrong. My favourite songs are Work and Why Me, Why Now. It won't be long before The Saturdays will be rivalling the likes of Girls Aloud and The Sugababes in the charts...
The new Girls Aloud? In your dreams Saturdays. November 23, 2008 Cartman (UK) 0 out of 4 found this review helpful
I can't believe there's all this talk of the Saturdays de-throning Girls Aloud and the Sugababes as the top girl band around. Where both those bands are edgier, the Saturdays just churn out the same tired old pop sound. Their songs are just mediocre. They haven't done anything that's a patch on tracks like About You Now or Biology and they never will.
