Awful awful awful December 28, 2008 Its a man thing (Uk) 1 out of 5 found this review helpful
This film has no merit whatsoever. The storyline is trite, the vocals are far below the standards set by Abba and every hackneyed phrase and emotion is exploited to full commercial effect. "Oh my God, can this be true!!!"
Superior in every way to the film versions December 22, 2008 Chris White (United Kingdom) I was surprised by how much I enjoyed the film and am now blown away by the quality of this soundtrack recording, which offers slickly produced, complete studio versions of the songs. Supervised by Benny Andersson and Bjoern Ulvaeus, with Andersson in particular taking a hands-on role in recreating ABBA's famous wall-of-sound, there is not a weak track on this album. Standouts include "The Name of the Game" (which was deleted from the movie) and a bassy, even more exuberant version of "Dancing Queen". br / br /The arrangements are much as you remember them but have been subtly updated with the help of ABBA's original backing musicians. Yes, even the odd dodgy vocal can be forgiven when accompanied by such polished production. One to definitely get the feet tapping.
Loath Abba, love Mamma Mia! December 11, 2008 Ms. Amanda Shaw (UK) Had to force myself to go and see this film as I can't stand Abba but I couldn't let a friend down on her birthday.....Wow, what an amazing film and what an amazing soundtrack. Feelgood factor still with me weeks after seeing the film and the songs as performed by these actors and actresses are fabulous. So good to see middle aged women having such a good time, and 007 can't sing but nor could Bob Dylan - both are great to listen to anyway! Visually the most beautiful film I've seen in years and even if, like me, you are not an Abba fan, do not miss this film!!
Brilliant October 6, 2008 Jan Harris (South Wales) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
My daughter bought me this for my birthday, cant stop playing it full volumn in the car. Cry everytime it gets to "slipping thru my fingers" I can really relate to this song. A must for every Abba fan and even some who aren't. All the cast did a fantastic job with all the songs, some better than others.
Thankyou, thankyou, thankyou.... September 28, 2008 Laura (UK) ...for this soundtrack, I don't think I could have coped without the songs whist waiting for the film to be released. I listen to it in the car, on my iPod, on my laptop - it's sad (and I really don't know much about what's out at the minute) but I didn't want to lose the feel good feeling I got when I left the cinema.
