An excellent closing for a major carreer December 1, 2008 JMC (Porto, Portugal) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
This will, most likely, be the last live performance of Genesis ever to be seen. In what concerns contents, a large part of it was a re-run of the Wembley performance, musicians line-up included. But the show itself was awsome. Some of the best visual effects (the 3rd disk shows how complex they were to achieve), fantastic stage, half a million people, state of the art camera shoots. br /Music flowed from older to newer faultlessly, using similar bars and chords to make the transition (as in the 15+ minutes "In the cage" segment, ending with Duke's travels). br /They knew it was their last live show and wanted to leave a lasting memory. They did.
Could have been better November 27, 2008 Andrew Mitchell (Leicester, England.) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have to say I was quite irritated with this dvd when I first put it on. There are FAR too many long shots! I had plenty of long shots when I went to see them in Brussels, thank you very much. I know, I know, there is a great light and visual show going on and this has to be on the disc as well, but they didn't have to be so numerous. I actually bought the 'Genesis in London' disc from 1980 at the same time as I bought this and I actually prefer it - you get to see the band! Granted, expectations have alot to do with this - the reviews said the London disc was rubbish and the Rome disc was outstanding! Maybe when I next play this disc it won't seem so bad now I haven't got the same expectations. br / br /Anyway, apart from the lack of shots of the band it's not a bad disc. After all, the music IS great!
Excellent October 23, 2008 chuckles (Netherlands) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I saw this concert orginally on the BBC, and have to say it was amazing. I agree that with Gabriel it may have been 6 stars, but if you see the build up you'll understand that's a whole different 'Lamb lies down on Broadway' project. I saw Genesis on some of their earlier tours like Invisible Touch, and to hear this, you would never have thought they had been away. They do an excellent blend of Epic's and shorter pop songs that should appeal to all ages of fans. OK, so it's nothing new, but enjoyable none the less! Gensis are back (at least for this concert anyway!)
The fun is over - nothing more to say September 12, 2008 michael raes (Belgium) 7 out of 12 found this review helpful
I finally bought this because I saw the concert and waiting for a blu-ray edition is apparently waiting for nothing and indeed it is waiting for nothing. The dvd reflects completely the show I saw being : dull, boring, musicians who do the job because they have to , and mind you I was a super-genesis-fan. It hurts me to say that I found more musical connection with a copy group ( The musical box ). At least that band was capable of raising the little hairs on my arms with performances of suppers ready or other stuff of the Selling England-show.And that is what music is all about, not the big screens and stages , but the music . Not surprised they stop now. Best concert I saw of them was at Brussels in 1982. Grumpy old men....yeah.
Why didnt they do the Uk concerts on DVD? September 5, 2008 Mr. S. L. Platt (Manchester) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I was at the Manchester show I was hoping just like the CD that the DVD may have had some of the other concerts on not just Rome, like Phil Collins own stuff I went to see him in Manchester he does a recording of the show in Paris? Whats wrong with us lot in the UK, apart from the opening shots a couple more panning around the audience you could hardly tell it was in Rome! br / br /The show was great I was just hoping I could have seen something of the show I was actually at on TV, seeing that being a Man Utd fan as well watching Genesis at Old Trafford was about as good as it gets for me!!!!!!!!!!
