Great for an absolute beginner January 17, 2008 Mr. S. J. Warrilow (UK) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I have no lessons other than this DVD and the Dummies book and I feel like I'm making real progress. The approach is very practical - getting you to play something as early as possible, and I found that very motivating. The style of presentation is light hearted and not at all intimidating. br /I'm really pleased with this purchase and would reccommend it to any other newbie.
Basic learning guitar January 12, 2008 BRIAN S. BECKWITH (Essex) 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
Although i have had a guitar for over 45 years i have not really taken to it seriously i can play all basic cords and pick out songs i know on the strings and accompany songs that i know well.My oldest son gave me this DVD along with Learning Guitar for Dummies second edition this xmas. Back to the DVD i found it easy because i new most of it already but i found it very helpful and inspiring and it got me practicing again.I believe this DVD with Jon Chappell taking you step by step,is a great starter for anyone wishing to learn to play guitar, it is so easy to follow children will grasp it in no time.Great value at twice the price i highly recommend it.Keep up the good work JON.From Brian.B
Absolutely Brilliant... For an absolute beginner this is a "MUST" November 21, 2007 A Customer (England) 37 out of 37 found this review helpful
My daughter aged 8yrs decided that she wanted to learn to play the guitar a couple of mnths ago. The middle of October (last month) we bought her one. Suprised to see how she could manage the frets she now has lessons at school, sadly it appears for this yr. only. br /I puchased this DVD for her not really knowing what to expect only to find this Brilliant step by step guide, simplistic to follow in every way. br /The DVD zooms in on the guitar itself and positioning on fingers on frets etc. at the right hand side of the screen is the cord Mr. Chappell is playing once again denoting where positioning of fingers should be. br /Having had no previous experience at all our daughter found this DVD informative and extremely easy to follow as did her father, only unable to follow correctly at the 9th out of 10 chapters when "Fingerpicking" was introduced. br /This dvd is aimed at no particular age group only Beginners of whatever age. Mr. Chappell's experience and honesty shines through as he repeatedly states you will not beable to play overnight that practice is a must all the things beginners need to hear. br /I cannot praise this DVD enough it hss to be one of the best if not the best DVD's and an invaluable aid to guitar playing irrespective of which type of guitar you choose to play. br /If you are looking for a Beginners guide to learning to play the guitar i cannot recommend this one too highly. You will not regret this purchase!.
Not up to the standard of the book... November 19, 2007 Benjamin Bass (Coventry, UK) 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
I bought this DVD along with the Guitar for Dummies book. br /One of them was great and I got a lot out of it. The other was this DVD. It's not all that bad, it's just that half of it is incredibly basic, and it doesn't advance much from there. Compared to the depth and range of styles in the book, I just didn't find much here. Might be OK for a total beginner, but if you know how to do relative tuning and play a few chords (E, D, A, G...) then I don't think it is great value. br /Just get the book...
Good but assumes too much October 26, 2006 W. Rodick (Cheshire United Kingdom) 14 out of 18 found this review helpful
This dvd works well with an existing beginners dvd. If you can stand the Americana homeboy 'humour' you can learn alot. The graphic punctuations were the most helpful to me. Occasionally a popup graphic would explain or expand upon a point being covered. If, like me, you know absolutely nothing about guitar playing I think he could have explained more and showed power chords for starting.
