Good left hand training but no chords January 10, 2006 George Morris (Guildford, England) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I purchased this book because I had previously very much enjoyed #x27;The Usborne Book of Christmas Carols#x27; which I would commend to anybody and of which I now have three copies so that our whole extended family of budding keyboardists can play carols together. Lulled by the ideal layout of that volume I failed to verify the exact nature of what was inside this book. It is indeed, as other reviewers have stated, a good course, training in the integrated use of simple left hand elements etc etc ..but it DOES NOT SHOW CHORDS. In my opinion this is a serious omission in a book implicitly claiming that it is aimed at keyboard use (an other book exists aimed at starting piano players of which this is supposed to be an adaptation for the keyboard). So: a good trainer and enjoyable; but not playable if you are intending to play a melody against chords. Oh - while we#x27;re at it, the book wants for lyrics as well. These may not be essential, but are rather a part of what one might expect, in my opinion; and are useful to we beginning players to see at-a-glance where we are!
Builds up skills from simple tunes to more advanced. November 18, 2001 couchru@hotmail.com (England) 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
I would recommend this book to anyone wanting to have a go at playing the keyboard. The friendly creatures guide the reader through, teaching them what they need to know and encouraging them. Self tutoring, it helps the pupil to build up their talents at their own pace.
