Amazon.com Product Description After creating a gadget/fashion icon in the original MOTORAZR, Motorola has upped the ante with the new RAZRsup2/sup V9 with cutting edge technology and enhanced features that make it even easier to use. Offered via ATT, the RAZRsup2/sup V9 offers super-fast downloads and multimedia streaming via ATT's 3G HSDPA/UMTS network. It's fully loaded with an arsenal of digital tools, including a 2-megapixel camera/camcorder, Bluetooth connectivity for streaming music and photo printing, MicroSD memory card expansion, dual color LCD screens, e-mail access, digital audio player, and full duplex speakerphone. And speaking of cutting edge, the phone's stainless steel internal frame and cast aluminum housing support makes the RAZRsup2/sup V9 stronger and more durable than its predecessor. p table align=right width=400 cellpadding=10 trtdimg src="http://images.amazon.com/images/G/01/wireless/detail-page/B000UWGPKM-razr2-quad-400.jpg" border=0 align=topbrbrsmallibSleeker, smarter, stronger: the RAZRsup2/sup V9 boasts a durable stainless steel frame and chemically hardened glass displays./b/i/small/td/tr /table bATT Service/bbr The RAZRsup2/sup V9 can handle high-speed data connectivity via ATT's 3G mobile broadband data network, which is available in most major metropolitan areas. The ATT 3G network uses HSDPA/UMTS technology (High Speed Downlink Packet Access/Universal Mobile Telephone System), making it possible to enjoy a variety of feature-rich wireless services with speeds up to 3.6 Mbps. It also gives ATT the advantage of offering simultaneous voice and data services. In areas where the 3G network is not available, you'll continue to receive service on the ATT EDGE network, which offers availability in more than 13,000 US cities and along some 40,000 miles of major highways. Providing average data speeds between 75-135Kbps, it's fast enough to support a wide range of advanced data services, including video and music clips, full picture and video messaging, high-speed color Internet access, and email on the go. p With 3G connectivity, you'll be able to access ATT's Cellular Video (CV) service and the Internet while on the go. Cellular Video features content from CNN, The Weather Channel, iFilm, Comedy Central and exclusive premium content from HBO and much more. It also features ATT Mobile Music, which provides access to the Napster subscription music as well as Music ID song-recognition software, music videos and The Buzz music news portal. The handset is MobiTV and XM Radio Mobile-capable, so you can enjoy streaming live TV and digital radio all in one device. (A MEdia Max subscription bundle is recommended for accessing ATT's Internet, video, and music services.) p With its quad-band connectivity, this phone communicates over GSM/GPRS networks and ATT offers voice roaming in more than 190 countries and data roaming in more than 130 countries. p bPhone Features/bbr Designed to be even sharper than before, the RAZRsup2/sup V9 shaves two millimeters from the original MOTORAZR. Its one-piece housing has no parting lines (meaning fewer chances of break points) and the cast aluminum hinge underwent more than 100,000 lab tests to ensure durability. Even the exterior camera lens is stronger, as it is made with chemically hardened glass. Despite its slimmer profile, the RAZRsup2/sup V9 offers enhanced dual screens that make the phone seem larger. The 2.2-inch internal screen offers twice the resolution of the original MOTORAZR while the 2-inch external screen is great for checking caller photo ID, easily reading incoming text messages, and controlling music playback through onscreen controls. Other Motorola-engineered enhancements include: ul liUpgraded Interface: With the redesigned, more intelligent interface, you'll be able to search for contacts faster and avoid duplicate entries for the same person while allowing contacts to have multiple numbers. The customizable main menu means you're never more than 2 to 3 clicks away from your favorite applications. And text messaging is easier, with the V9 recognizing what type of message you are sending. liCrystalTalk Technology: This innovative feature automatically accounts for background noise during a call and adjusts the audio quality based on ambient noise conditions to provide the optimal conversational experience. CrystalTalk also reduces the volume of the background noise picked up by the microphone during a call, making it possible to be more easily heard over the phone while in a noisy environment. liTalk to Me: Originally designed to address the needs of those with vision impairment, the RAZRsup2/sup V9 is able to read the phone's interactive menus, contacts, messages and more aloud--adding convenience to your on-the-go lifestyle. SMS messages on the phone can be read and replied to with pre-programmed text messages without ever having to open up the flip. liHaptics: Motorola has incorporated breakthrough haptics technology--an interface that creates tactile feedback--that provides vibrating feedback in response to your finger taps. When combined with the virtual music keys, the haptics technology helps you to effortlessly control music playback. /ul p The 2-megapixel camera includes an 8x digital zoom and it can automatically snap up to eight new pictures--letting you choose the best image from a complete series of pictures. You can even print photos wirelessly to a Bluetooth-compatible printer with just a few menu selections. It provides four resolution choices (from 320 x 240 to 1600 x 1200 pixels) and also features a self-timer, free memory space indicator, color effects, night mode for low-light shots, and five shutter sounds (with a silent mode). p The RAZRsup2/sup V9 is also an impressive video camcorder, providing up to QCIF resolution (176 x 144 pixels). It also gives you the option of choosing the video format, which offers different frame rates--25 fps for MPEG and H263 and 15 fps for WMV and Real. You can record video for as long as you have available space on your MicroSD memory card. p table align=left width=200 cellpadding=10 trtdimg src="http://images.amazon.com/images/G/01/wireless/detail-page/B000UWGPKM-razrV9-music.jpg" border=0 align=topbrbrsmallibControl music playback with the virtual digital audio player buttons on the V9's external screen, which includes tactile feedback./b/i/small/td/tr /table With up to 2 GB of storage (via optional MicroSD memory card), the RAZRsup2/sup V9 can store up to 1000 of your favorite songs. It offers compatibility with Microsoft Windows Media Player 11, enabling easy synchronization and transfer between phone and PC. You'll be able to modify music playback with the flip closed thanks to the virtual contextual music controls that appear on the external screen. And you can keep playing music even while surfing the web, sending text messages, or even using the camera. p This phone provides Bluetooth version 2.0 wireless connectivity with EDR (enhanced data rate), and includes profiles for communication headset, handsfree car kits, and audio/video remote control. With the A2DP Bluetooth profile, you can stream your music to a pair of compatible Bluetooth stereo headphones. You can connect your laptop (either via Bluetooth or wired USB) and enjoy dial-up networking--surf the Internet, send email, and access files from a server. p The RAZRsup2/sup V9 features a full HTML browser (Opera 8.5) that takes advantage of high-speed wireless data connections for faster, bigger and richer web surfing experience. Built-in e-mail functionality (POP/IMAP/SMTP) combined with MobileSync software provides easy, PC-like access to both personal and corporate e-mail accounts and calendars. p Other features include: ul li45 MB internal flash memory liUp to 1000 contact entries, each with up to six numbers and two email addresses liBluetooth wireless connectivity (version 2.0 with Enhanced Data Rate) with profiles for communication headsets, handsfree, stereo music streaming, audio/video remote control, printing, dial-up networking, and file transfer liUSB 2.0 wired connectivity, with mass storage capability liIncludes Bowling3D and Diner Dash games, with more downloadable via ATT liPolyphonic and MP3 ringtones liVoice command and dialing, as well as ability to record voice memos liPIM functions including calendar, calculator, alarm clock, and world clock /ul p bVital Statistics/bbr The RAZRsup2/sup V9 weighs 4.41 ounces and measures 4.06 x 2.09 x 0.53 inches. Nice phone, lousy ATT service, Amazon bad advice October 2, 2008 John Heide (Long Island, NY) 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
I purchased this phone after discussing with ATT (my current service provider) about how to best roll my old cell number over to this new phone. Additionally, I followed the instructions posted above from the link provided by Amazon on how to keep my old number. This information provided by Amazon is incorrect. You would think that rolling my old number from my three year old ATT service (contract obligations long since completed) over to the new Razr V9 with service by ATT would be easy. br / br /Not!! In fact I can't do it. ATT customer service, both the business account center and the regular service account folks, has been polite but unhelpful. They told me my only option is to pay a $175 cancellation fee on the new V9 from Amazon, return it to Amazon, and start up a new service under my old account which was left active, per the instructions provided by Amazon and ATT. And of course, they'll sell me the V9 for $169. br / br /If you want to keep your old number, don't use ATT. Customer support at ATT has been sorely lacking.
Great call clarity and reception indoors. September 27, 2008 Nauman Sheikh (Stockton, CA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Great buy with a 2 year contract extension (ATT charges $18). br /I would recommend to anyone who wants a good reception and call calarity, and is fedup with dropped calls. br / br /This phone has a great reception indoors. If you go near a window on the second floor you can hear loud and clear. Easily get 3-4 bars. br /The keys are a bit hard to press, but that does not bother me. Both my wife and i love this phone. br /It is a million times better than LG phone we had. br /I just wish there was a way to change the 3G tune that comes on when you turn on the phone. But we got around it and turned the volume way down on the tune. One great feature is that there are separated settings for volume for both ring tones and in coming calls. This way you can set it the way you like. br / br / br /
Good looking phone-nice reception September 21, 2008 W. Kelly Johnston (Odessa, Mo) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
After running my Motorola V-557 thru the wash, I was forced to get a new one, and, unfortunately, locked into another 2 year contract. I have been with ATT for 15 years, and not planning on changing. As far as the phone goes, it is nice looking, but as noted by other reviewers, shows fingerprints and smudges. I have mine in a Body Glove brand case, which I think gives the best fit and protection. The reception is great! My old phones signal was weak, and at times non-existant out in the country where we live. The Razr2 has a decent signal at all times. Battery life as compared to my 557 is bad, but I knew that after reading other reviews. I simply have to charge it more often, which is no big deal. The flat buttons take getting used to, and if you text much, you will get used to them. Having 5 kids who want to communicate via text, I was forced to learn how. My phone gets raves from all my kids 18-23 yrs. Two have older razrs and want to upgrade. My wife loved mine, and now she has one too. Phone is heavy and appears to be quite sturdy, and that is important to me. Far better constructed than many of the free phones you can get. HIGHLY recommend using Amazon to buy your phone from. They beat the pants off ATT prices at their stores. I tried to get ATT to match the prices, and was met with a resounding NO. Apparently they are happy with locking me into another 2 year contract and could care less where I buy the phone. I believe you will be happy with this phone, and suggest you go to an ATT store to check out the phone first, then make an informed buy from whom-ever you choose. Picture ID is a nice feature and highly recommend getting the SanDisc memory chip for extra pics and music. Again, you will get the best prices on Amazon for almost all accesseries, all with NO bidding on items! Nice! Note to ATT---you should consider rewarding long-time customers who upgrade with shorter than 2 year contracts and how about INCLUDING a car charger with the phone! As far as the camera goes, I think the pics are great. Really does well on close-ups.
Exceeds expectations September 9, 2008 Midnight Rambler (South Bend, IN) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
There are a lot of reviews of this phone, so I'll just cover the things I found exceptional or contrary to others experience. br / br /This phone exceeded my expectations. Call clarity is by far the best of any cell phone I have had. The first three people I called mentioned how good it sounded - without any prompting by me. br / br /Color - to be honest I was expecting a pink phone based on the pictures at Amazon. It is really a very nice dark maroon color that looks very nice. br / br /The phone is heavier than other phones and a bit bigger. But the phone is metal - not plastic so of course it is heavier. It is also a bit larger than other phones, but I like that as well. It feels more like a phone than a toy. br / br /Hinge - I cannot imagine this hinge failing. It is a metal hinge which seems very solid. br / br /As others have mentioned, the charging port it a bit of nusiance. I can image the cover eventually breaking. br / br /It is a fingerprint magnet. br / br /The battery cover is a bear to get off. I almost took it to the store to get my micro sd card installed. br / br /With the micro SD card installed, I can now stop carrying my MP3 player around. br / br /Now ATT versus Verizon. I've been a Verizon customer for years. I never switched even though I couldn't use my phone at home. It seemed to work ok everywhere else. I have a second residence for work and the Verizon phone worked there - until I moved up the street a mile or so - then it was nothing but useless. I also was dropping a lot of calls on the highway. Almost every time I switched towers. br / br /I took a shot on a carrier switch. I'm glad I did. My phone is now useable at both of my residences and I have yet to drop a call in a month of use. I definately have "more bars in more places" with ATT. Sometimes I have to walk around a bit to get a stronger signal, but once the call connects, it really seems to lock on. br / br /On the down side, ATT charges you to back up your contacts and that was free with Verizon. ATT also seems to charge a bit more for things than Verizon did. br / br /In conclusion, I'm extremely happy with this purchase and carrier.
